Lore & Background

The story follows Veltol Velvet Velsvalt, a villainous demon lord from the magical world of Alneath who was slain by the hero Gram. Five hundred years later, his subordinate Machina Soleige revives him, only to find that Alneath has merged with Earth in a catastrophe called the Fantasion, which occurred in 2023. The merged world of 2099 combines magic with engineering into 'magineering,' and Veltol, now powerless, seeks to rebuild his following with Machina and her hacker friend Takahashi.

Reader's Guide

The series has spawned two manga adaptations: the first by Kiiro Akashiro ran from November 2021 to June 2022 on Kadokawa Shoten's Shōnen Ace Plus before being removed for unknown reasons; the second by Yutaka Sakurai ran from March 2023 to August 2024 and was collected into three tankōbon volumes. An anime television series adaptation by J.C.Staff aired from October to December 2024, streamed by Crunchyroll. The series' significance lies in its fusion of fantasy and cyberpunk tropes, winning the Fantasia Grand Prize and gaining international licensing.
